Adult Support, Formation & Events

Lutheran Family Services is coordinating support for groups of Asylum Seekers (families and not individuals) who will come to Albuquerque for a short stay while they continue on their journey. Catholic Charities is supporting this work of dignity by compiling a list of groups (churches/schools/organizations/groups etc.) who would be willing to make and bring prepared, hot, mild (not spicy) meals for approximately 60 individuals on a one-time basis, during the period when Lutheran Family Services is supporting this effort. The group must be able to deliver the meal to the serving location, and the group is welcome to stay and serve the meal (or not stay, that's fine too). There is much to still be determined but we would need the dinner meal on Wednesdays - Saturdays. We also need organizations that could prepare the meal on somewhat short notice, if necessary. Since we are completely unsure when this will start or how predictable the arrivals will be, we are asking for flexibility. We want to be proactive in gathering the meal support so when the families arrive we will be ready to serve.

Please email the name of the organization/church/group etc and a contact person's name along with a phone number and/or email address to:

Call Kathy Freeze at ASF, Director Center for Community Involvement at 724-4694 for additional information.

Week of Prayer for Christian Unity  -  January 18-25, 2019

January 18-25 is the annual observance of the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity. The theme chosen for 2019 is "Justice, Only Justice, You Shall Pursue" (Deuteronomy 16:20). Throughout 2019, join Christians everywhere in praying "that they may all be one" joining our prayer with that of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Sunday, January 13th

The annual Week of Prayer for Christian Unity begins Friday, January 18 and continues through Friday, January 25. Let us join other Christian churches in our area as we remember the 2019 theme, "Justice, Only Justice, You Shall Pursue" (Deuteronomy 16:30).

Sunday, January 20th  -  Ecumenical Sunday

Today is Ecumenical Sunday when we celebrate what God is doing through the many ecumenical agencies  -  local, regional, national and international - that make up the modern ecumenical movement. As we continue our special prayers "that all may be one... that the world may belive" (John 17:21), we take time to familiarize ourselves with the works to promote understanding and cooperation among Christians and others in our community.

Sunday, January 27th

Although the annual Week of Prayer for Christian Unity concluded Friday, we continue to remember this year's theme: "Justice, Only Justice, You Shall Pursue" (Deuteronomy 16:30) and pray "that all may be one... that the world may believe" (John 17:21).

SAVE THE DATE:  Our Annual Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.Mass will be on January 20, 2019 - 12 noon at St. Joseph on the Rio Grande Catholic Church. Presider will be Most Rev. Archbishop John C. Wester, Archbishop of Santa Fe.

Hesed and the Mystery of God's Lovingkindness

A Two Part Advanced Theology Class (10 hours total)

February 9, 2019, 9 am - 3 pm and March 9, 2019, 9 am - 3 pm

Presenter: Jason Rodarte, Ed.D

God's identity is beyond what we can fully express in human words. But Scripture uses one particular word to describe the distinctiveness of God's character: the Hebrew word hesed. Hesed is a concept so rich in meaning that it doesn't translate well into any single English word of phrase. The many dimensions of hesed, often expressed as lovingkindness, covenant faithfulness, or steadfast love. Come explore how hesed is used in the Old Testament to reveal God's character and how he relates to his people. Ultimately, the fullness of hesed is embodied in the incarnation of Jesus.
